Any Given Sunday Speech and Speech to the Troops at Tilbury

Any Given Sunday Speech
1. How does Al Pacino's character talk about himself in his speech?
Al Pacino's character talks about himself in the speech by telling them about his life and how his experience can help the team to improve. He is being self-demeaning and uses his life as an example of what not to do
2. What effect does this have on the speech? (Use Quotes in your answer).
By adding Al Pacino's characters point of view it adds a depth to the speech. 'I made every wrong choice a middle age man could make' is an example. The quote gives his experience of his life and then goes on to say 'But, you only learn that when you start losing stuff. You find out that life is just a game of inches' which illustrates that from losing and wrong choices comes experience. He exposes himself and all his flaws, and connects the players by using honesty.

Speech to the Troops at Tilbury

1. How does Queen Elizabeth talk about herself in this speech? (use quotes in your answer)
Queen Elizabeth talks about herself in a rather passionate way. She illustrates that she is dedicated to the England and its people. 'In the midst and heat of the battle, to live and die amongst you all; to lay down for my God, and for my kingdom, and my people, my honour and my blood' is an example of the dedication and passion she has for her country.
2. Why do you think this is an effective way to refer to herself?
I think this is an effective way because it adds depth and emotion to the speech. She adds so much passion to the speech as she is describing how she is dedicated. It adds a sense of honesty to the speech from the passion and descriptive language.
